We Can Relate to Jesus Because He Became Human
“From One Christian to Another…”
There are all kinds of gods down through history. The Greek gods displayed human characteristics but none of them became human. What if we worshiped a god who never became human? How much could we identify with him? How much could we relate to him?
Of course, this is a moot question because God did become human. The God of the Bible came to earth and became fully God and fully man. And He came to save us.
It Was a Great Sacrifice for Jesus
Becoming human was a stretch in itself. Can you imagine being God in the vast reaches of time and space, being above it all, and choosing to come into our earthly mess of sin? And yet, that’s exactly what Jesus did. Joyce Meyer, the TV Bible teacher, compares it to a human being becoming an ant. Can you imagine the difference?
Jesus Fulfilled His Mission as a Human
And He came as a helpless baby. He grew up as a little boy with unassuming parents in an obscure village. It wasn’t until His three-year ministry that He began displaying His miraculous powers as He spread the message of His kingdom. He walked dusty roads traveling from town to town. He prayed before He selected His disciples. He taught them with such love and patience. He told them boldly that He was going to die, but their minds couldn’t grasp it ahead of time. Why would God die in such a humiliating way? Appearing to be so utterly helpless?
Jesus Willingly Died for Us
They didn’t understand at the time, that Jesus had everything completely under control even though it didn’t look that way. Jesus said He “laid down His life” and He had the “power to take it up again.” He told Pilate that he would have no power over Him “if it had not been given from above.” Everything went according to the Heavenly Father’s plan even though it looked like everything was out of control.
We Have the Holy Spirit to Help Us
And before He went back to the Father, He promised his followers He loved so much that He would send the Holy Spirit to help them remember everything He had taught them. Even after He returned to the Father’s right hand, He was determined to help them spread the word. He would be with them “to the very end of the age.”
A Wonderful Plan
As we saved sinners can see in retrospect, it’s a wonderful plan. Who can understand our human condition and human problems more than God Who became human Himself – one of His creatures? Who can better intercede for us with the Heavenly Father?
He knows our every need. Our every thought. He got tired. He wept. He bled for us. All for us. All for us. Can any of us have a greater God?
Blessings on your journey of faith, anita
Beyond Myself: The Farm Girl & the African Chief
I describe my journey of faith in my memoir of my love story. During the 1960s, I married my anthropology professor who was a hereditary African Chief of the Mende tribe in West Africa. This led me to visit Africa a number of times and live in his remote village for a year with our 3 boys doing lay missionary work. I certainly didn’t do things perfectly. And yet, the Lord has been so gracious in my life! I can only praise and thank Him!
