Does God Favor Any Country?
“From One Christian to Another…”
If we say the Lord abides with His people, does He dwell in America? Is America His favored country? Because it was founded by Christians and on Christian principles? Does God favor any country?
God Chose the Jewish Nation
As a Christian, I have heard this. And yet, the only nation I know of that God chose and favored was the Jewish nation. The Lord plainly told His people that He didn’t choose them because they were special or faithful (because they weren’t,) but because He wanted to show His glory. Can any people or nation claim God’s providence besides the Jewish people?
We Are Now the Seed of Abraham
Since we are Christians and Gentiles, God has said in His Word that we are now the seed of Abraham. But does that mean God must favor our nation? I wonder about this because I see a lot of evil in America – a lot of forsaking His will. God brought judgment on His beloved people to the point of letting their enemies destroy them. But before He did it, His prophet, Isaiah, declared who would do this and why. Isaiah named the king who would bring the Jewish people back to Jerusalem 70 years later, before any of this happened.
Jeremiah was God’s Faithful Messenger
I feel sorry for the prophet Jeremiah. He had such a difficult task with no apparent earthly rewards. He was never allowed to marry perhaps because it would distract him from his work. Instead of being loved, he was persecuted for bearing bad news, for convicting the people and warning them. You’ve heard the saying, “If you don’t like the message, kill the messenger.” Although God told Jeremiah not to go to Egypt with the exiles who remained in the land, he did so and tradition says he was stoned there by the people.
In all of this, Jeremiah was faithful in delivering the message and I’m sure he has a special place with the Lord in heaven. I’m sure Jesus told him, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Are Americans Fulfilling God’s Mandate?
Now how about American Christians? Are we fulfilling the Lord’s mandate? If God could so punish His very own chosen nation, does it look good for us? Are we arrogant in thinking we are special in God’s eyes? May the Lord give us all wisdom and enable us to faithful to Him.
Blessings on your journey of faith, anita
Beyond Myself: The Farm Girl & the African Chief
I describe my journey of faith in my memoir of my love story. During the 1960s, I married my anthropology professor who was a hereditary African Chief of the Mende tribe in West Africa. This led me to visit Africa a number of times and live in his remote village for a year with our 3 boys doing lay missionary work. I certainly didn’t do things perfectly. And yet, the Lord has been so gracious in my life! I can only praise and thank Him!
